Book Page Eggs in Basket

IMG_1735

I picked up this paperboard basket at the thrift store for 55 cents.

It  was covered in snowmen.  I knew I could cover it with something else.  I have seen these at the dollar store too with Easter prints.  At first, I thought I would cover it in fabric but decided not to try it with the curves of this basket.

Then, I decided to use my old vintage dictionary pages.  After all, I’ve made so many other things with them lately.  I ripped the pages into useable sections and glued them all over the basket, starting at the inside and working my way out. I did the handle and bottom last.

Once I had the basket done, I just had to have some eggs to go in the basket!  I found some old plastic eggs, the jumbo ones that you would use as prize eggs, and covered them too.

I love using the dictionary pages because of all of the neat illustrations.  I was able to use a rabbit on this egg.

They tend to hold my interest too because I try to read all of the words on them. But, I’m just like that.  I can’t fall asleep if a television is on because I will try to listen to whatever’s going on.

Anyway, back to the eggs and basket:  I sprayed them down with some  Krylon Triple-Thick Crystal Clear Glaze so they would have a glossy finish.  I filled the basket with paper shred and nestled the eggs inside.

I’m lovin’ the way this turned out.  It’s a great one of a kind accent for spring/Easter that is not pastel or too cutesy.  Not that I don’t like pastel and cutesy- I love it.  But not in every room.  I try to maintain a more subdued decor in the living room but get a little wilder in the family room/den.

Total cost for this project- 55 Cents.  Everything else I had on hand.  Can’t beat that!
