Upcycled Tea Box

IMG_1596
Due to circumstances, my boyfriend’s other daughter is now staying with us.  She has been here a month now.   It has been a sudden change for her.  To help her try to adjust, I made a little box for her to keep letters from family in.

I used this old tea box.  We go through A LOT of tea around here.  Hey, this is the South, where babies drink sweet tea in their bottles!  I am only halfway kidding.   As you can see, we drink Lipton tea.  It is The Best.  If we can’t get Lipton, we will drink Tetley but nothing else.

I covered it in scrapbook paper.  I will also be using this same scrapbook paper to line the drawers of the wild pink desk in her and her sister’s room.  I inked the edges all around with just a plain black ink stamper from the dollar store.  I also added some black trim around the top edge of  the box.

I put her name in sticker letters on the top. I added a rosette made from some old clothes in a pink and black buffalo check.  Next to that, I added two jewel hearts.

I thought I was all done but when I stepped back, I felt like it was missing something.  Oh, yeah…GLITTER!  This is for a little girl, right?  Then, it calls for glitter.  I added some Shimmer n Shine (from Elmers) to just the top.  I think that was all it needed.  When I was finally through and everything was dry,  I sprayed it down with sealer.

I think it turned out really cute and hopefully, having a special place to keep her letters will make her feel a little more at home.
