Black Crow Trash Bag Wreath

Black Crow Trash Bag Wreath {Krafty Kat}

I LOVE this wreath!  It makes me wish it could be Halloween all year just so I can keep this wreath up!  It was inspired by one of the costumes worn by Charlize Theron in the movie Snow White And The Huntsman, covered in black, shiny feathers.  It is perfect wicked witch attire!

 I loved the spookiness of the crows.  There is just something mysterious and almost supernatural about the birds. They seem to always go along with something awful.  I have long been fascinated by them but even more so after seeing The Crow (very creepy).

Since I don’t have feathers to work with, I got creative and decided to use black trash bags.  Although it doesn’t look entirely like feathers, it resembles them enough to give the idea.

I made this the same way I made my ice wreath.
I started with a coat hanger and bent it into a round shape to be the wreath form.

I then took several black trash bags and cut them into approximately 1 inch strips.  Then I opened those strips up and cut them into various length strips.  The shortest were about 6 inches and the longest about 12 inches.
Cut Trash Bags Into Strips
I then tied the strips onto the hanger, round and round, alternating the shorter and longer strips.  I was sure to use the longest at the bottom of the wreath.
Tie Strips Onto Hanger
Progress
I used the hanger part to hang the wreath and just tied a few extra strips along the “neck” of the handle to hide it.
Black Crow On Wreath
For the final touch, I added an old dollar store crow I’ve had for a few years now.  He’s seen better days but he’s still hanging in there!

The wreath was so easy to make and I was able to make it with items I had on hand.

Here it is on the front door.  No, that’s not an “orb” in my picture, just a reflection from the sun.

I think it will look super spooky at night with the orange lights on and the spooky eyes in the bushes!

I’m starting to really get in the mood for lots of frightful fun!

  11. Oh my goodness!! I LOVE this!! How long did that take you? I think I might put my boys to work on this one!! It looks fabulous! I remember spending a whole day in 5th grade making one of these out of white trash bags for Christmas. I love how you left the strips longer at the bottom. Love!!! Thanks so much for linking it up at Creatively Tuesdays at The Rustic Pig. Hugs!!
