Halloween Framed Chalkboard Pumpkins

 Framed Chalkboard Pumpkins (Krafty Kat)
I have jumped the gun (I don’t know what that really means) and started making things for Halloween!  That’s OK.  I know I am not alone.
It’s such a fun holiday!  Who doesn’t love dressing up in costumes and eating candy???
This is so easy and fun to make!  You just need some chalkboard contact paper (Have I mentioned that I love this stuff?).  I used my Silhouette to cut out a pumpkin shape but you could print out a shape then trace it onto the contact paper and cut it out.  Then, just peel the liner away and place it onto the surface you want to stick it to.  I used the glass of this frame.  Smooth it down and use a credit card or squeegee to remove any bubbles.  Easy Peasy!

I used three pumpkins but you could just make one and stick it right on the wall or on a board or even your front door.  This is an eye-catching display and you can just write on it with chalk to draw goofy jack-o-lantern faces or countdown the days until Halloween.  You could spell out a spooky word or write whatever you like.

A little secret I have learned to writing with chalk is to always wet the chalk first.  It makes it show up so much better.  At first, it won’t look like it’s working then the writing will almost “magically” appear.
Halloween Countdown Chalkboard Pumpkin (Krafty Kat)
The kids saw it and got so excited! They were ready to start full-blown Halloween decorating. They (I) will have to wait until at least October 1st to be reasonable.  However, I have been known to be completely unreasonable at times.

  5. Cuteness galore! I have also been ready to do some fall decorating but in my my case I figured I better not put off the urge because typically I am a procrasinator! May as well do it while I feel motivated to.

  12. Um? Chalkboard contact paper?!? Guess who is taking a trip to the craft store this week.....I just bought my first roll of contact paper for crafts last week and we've already had so much fun with it. I didn't even see chalkboard contact paper (then again I bought mine at Home Depot, we were there, it was there, I couldn't resist). This is such a cute idea. Thanks! And what does jumping the gun mean?!?

    1. Yes, isn't it an amazing invention? Oh, and jumping the gun is one of those old expressions that we Southerners say all the time. I think it is from when people would start a race with someone firing a pistol up in the air. Someone who jumped the gun would be taking off before the shot was fired.

  13. This is what "jumped the gun" means. At a horse race a gun is fired to start the race (I'm not sure if that's nowadays or what but this is a really old expression and in the olden days :) they fired a gun to start a race. If a horse started BEFORE the gun was fired, then that horse had "jumped the gun". So if a person "jumps the gun" at Christmas (that's me) then they start decorating in November... me, again). Believe it or not I'm still figuring out what some of these old sayings mean. Hope this helped. Linda
