Gimme Five For Friday (DIY Wall Art)

Hello, all you crafty chickas!  Welcome to another edition of Gimme Five For Friday!

If this is your first time here, I’ll letcha in on the SITCH…each week there is a new theme and I give you five examples of whatever it is.  This week is DIY Wall Art.  Then, you can participate!  Yes, you!  You can link up and share your DIY Wall Art (or whatever the topic may be)!  Seem simple enough?  OK, so, here we go…

I would LOVE to be able to afford gorgeous museum quality paintings to display in my home but, guess what?  I can’t.  BOO!  And, you probably can’t either.  If you can, I am happy for you.  So, what do you do if you need to adorn your walls and have little means to do so?  You DIY, that’s what!

Here are five fabulous examples:

1.  Crochet Wall Art.  Are you granny chic?  These colorful trivets become art when displayed on a wall.  Groupings of anything you have a lot of can look great (think plates, postcards, etc.)

2.  This inspiring message was created using old license plates attached to old boards. Don’t have any license plates?  Paint the letters of the message you want to send or use other items with lettering.

3.  Recycle an old pair of jeans into a great work of modern art.  You don’t have to go with denim though.  Use bright and colorful discarded fabric to create this sunburst pattern.

4.  Create a one of a kind woodgrain silhouette with a piece of plywood.   Remember, you don’t have to use black – use a color that will fit with your decor.

5.  Attach scrapbooking paper to styrofoam shapes to create some very classy looking art.  Your guests will never know the difference.

Of course, when it comes to making your own wall art, anything goes!  If you get creative and use your imagination, you can take ordinary items you have and turn them into good looking art that you can be proud to display in your home!  I hope I have given you some good ideas to help get the ball rolling.  Here is some wall art I made using newspaper.  This is another one I did for my daughter's room.

So, have you ever taken matters into your own hands and made a display or work of art for your wall?  Your walls deserve some lovin’ too!  If you have, it’s your turn!  Show us what you made!

  4. Kathie - keep this intriguing crafting stuff coming to my inbox, and you're going to cause me to take down the velvet Elvis and replace it with something I've created. I'll never admit to it, but I'll silently give you all the credit.

p.s. There isn't actually a velvet Elvis hanging in my house. Or is there?
