Nature Finds=Free Fall Decor

The kids and I went on a nature walk/adventure the other day.  Trust me, with four kids, wherever I go, it is an adventure.  We just had to get out of the house!  So, we went into the magical forest,  down the secret trail and found all sorts of natural treasures.  We had to duck down low to escape the branches reaching down toward us and watch our steps and listen out for all of the creatures which may be lurking in the woods.  It was so much fun!  The forest floor was covered with pine needles, colorful leaves, mosses, broken branches, and insects going about their business.  We saw many interesting things along the way ...
We gathered up our treasures as we walked-sweet gum balls, beautiful leaves, pine cones, acorns, and a few old bottles.  Just past the forest was the old spooky graveyard.  Lots of old broken tombstones and faded, wind beaten bouquets.  On some of the headstones the names were actually just handwritten.  Behind the cemetery was the peaceful meadow...

We brought our treasures home to display.  We put them all in simple glass vases so we could see them.  I had my daughter decorate one of the vases.  I simply asked her to make it look like fall.  She hot glued some of the leaves we found, pine needles, and some fake leaves to the glass.  She wrapped the mouth of the vase in jute and made a festive bow.  I think she did a great job-it does look like fall!  After our walk, the kids also made pipe cleaner leaves and pumpkins then attached them to branches to create fall trees.

We decorated for fall using natural things that were available to us right outside our door and it didn't cost a penny!  Not to mention that we shared a little time together as a family.  What do you have available to you where you live?  Maybe you have wheat or corn husks or maybe even pumkins or gourds.  Maybe there is some acorns or moss or hay.  I encourage you to go outside and spend some time with your family and find/make something together for your home.  What can you find if you just take the time to look?  Carpe Diem.
