Simple Evergreen Centerpiece

Remember that silver tray I found at Goodwill? Well, today, I put it to good use.  I made a simple candle centerpiece for my livingroom.  I started by cutting off a piece of floral foam from an old arrangement with a serrated knife.

I soaked it in water for a while (maybe an hour) while I went outside.  While I was out, I got a bunch of clippings from some evergreen trees in my backyard ( I think they are cypress).  I came back inside and put my floral foam in a shallow candledish (any type of shallow dish will work because it does not show).

I put the dish in the center of my silver tray and started adding my evergreen.  I started on the sides and just pushed them into the foam.  I did the two farthest sides and then worked my way to the middle, with the branches curving in towards the center.

As I got to the middle, I used shorter, smaller cuttings.  I made one layer all the way around and then added more until I could not see any of the foam underneath.  Basically, once it looked like there was enough, I added just a little bit more.

Then, I added a few pinecones (leftover from fall decorating) that I had sprayed with that spray snow stuff  while I was outside.  I hot glued a wide strip of red velvet ribbon around a simple white pillar candle and added a small red velvet bow.  I love it!

It should stay fresh up until Christmas as long as I keep a check on the water.  Very easy, inexpensive centerpiece!  I've never done any type of arrangement so if I can do this- so can you!  You could use any type of evergreen you have available, whatever color scheme you like, add ornaments, berries, flowers to suit your decor.
