The Case of the Copy Kat Decor

I really love all of the design & decor from the top name companies but it is usually way out of my price range.  But sometimes you can recreate the same look and spend a whole lot less.  Sometimes items you already have can be repurposed or recrafted in a way that duplicates the style you want.  Sometimes, thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales can supply a similiar lamp or table that you wanted but knew you couldn't afford.  & sometimes, just sometimes, you buy something just because you like it, regardless of anything you saw in a catalog or in a blog or on tv & discover that expensive store is now featuring a similiar item to what you have.  & that is when you know you are truly awesome! ;)   This is my livingroom rug.  I have had it approximately 2 years or so.  I bought it at Home Depot for @ $50.

This is a similiar rug in a very popular catalog selling  (Can I name names?  Hint: C&B) for $800.

I am sure it is probably much better quality than my rug but honestly, I bought that rug cause I liked how it looked not for the fiber content or how long it would hold up.  & because I spent $50 on it & have been using it for a couple of years, I won't feel bad when I decide (as I often do) that I am tired of it & want something new.  But if I spent $800, it would be there until it rotted away!

This is an iron tiered stand I bought to put fruit & vegetables in for my kitchen.  I thought it was cute & useful.  I spent @ $15 at TJMaxx about a year ago.

Here is a very similiar stand in a catalog I just got a week ago for @ $45.  That's about 3 times the price.  Yes, it is a beautiful stand but I'd rather keep my 30 bucks.

Look around you.  What do you have that you absolutely love, not because it was trendy or you
spent a fortune for it but you just love it because it is an expression of you

See, I knew you were awesome too!

  1. What great finds! I love it when I find things like that. Looks like you go about it the right way. I usually wait until the catalog comes out and then knock it off. ;)

  2. I love finding ways to save. Definitely save your money and get creative with accessories, and put your money into buying a really quality sofa or an amazing mattress -- the kind of stuff you keep for years and years.

  7. Yay! I bought that same tiered stand at TJ Maxx, spray painted mine off white w/ a brown glaze and just put it on my daughters dresser for hats, bows, trinkets, etc. Like the rug too :)

Looking forward to checking out more of your blog.
